Think on These
Things
by Tom McLemore
Question: Sir, What are your impressions of the recent movie The Da Vinci Code.
Answer: The movie (as the book) advances the notion that Jesus was married to, and fathered a child by, Mary Magdalene. In Dan Brown’s murder mystery, the person on Jesus’ right hand in Leonardo da Vinci’s fresco, The Last Supper, is identified as Mary Magdalene. The story follows the characters’ uncovering a plot by the Catholic church to hide the truth about Jesus and Mary from the world. The "holy grail" turns out to be Mary, and her child is the beginning of a merely human Jesus’ bloodline. The emperor Constantine and the Council of Nicea are portrayed as having excluded anything from the New Testament canon about all this and having fabricated the idea that Jesus was the divine Son of God. The story revives the claims of a heresy (Gnosticism) which arose after the close of the apostolic age. The witnesses to the divinity of Jesus and to the true gospel, are older than, and were recognized as genuine before, Constantine and the Council of Nicea. The Dan Brown tale is nothing more than a fabulous, fanciful fiction!
