Think on These
Things
by Tom McLemore
Question: Men actually wrote the Bible, so how can it be the word of God?
Answer: The words of the Bible were written down by human beings, but that does not tell the whole story about the origin of the words they wrote. "No prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit" (2 Peter 1:21 TNIV). "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that all God’s people may be thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Timothy 3:16, 17). The fact that God communicated his word through men meant that it would be in human language, accessible to human beings. God’s written word is final and authoritative. His ultimate revelation, however, is his Word made flesh, Jesus Christ (John 1:1, 14). In him, we see what God is like living as a human being and how humans may partake of the divine nature.
