Think on These
Things
by Tom McLemore
Question: Dear Mr. McLemore, I have heard that you folks don’t believe the Old Testament. Is this true?
Answer: No. We believe that the Old Testament is inspired of God (2 Timothy 3:14-17). It was the Bible of the Savior and the earliest Christians. We do recognize that the existence of a New Testament indicates how we are to view the Old Testament. The Old Testament witnessed to a covenant and system of justification based on observance of the law of Moses and featured a carnal worship. The New Testament witnesses to a covenant and system of justification based on obedient faith in Jesus Christ and features a spiritual worship. The Old Testament reveals much that can never change (e.g., the nature of God, fundamental moral principles, etc.). But to learn how to become a Christian and to live and worship as a Christian, one must study the New Testament rather than the Old Testament. The failure to understand and apply properly the distinction between the two testaments has led to a serious perversion of the religion of Jesus Christ that is revealed in the New Testament.
