Think on These
Things
by Tom McLemore
Question: Dear sir, I think Christians should be more tolerant. I don’t think everyone has to believe in Christ to be all right with God. What do you think?
Answer: In the times in which we live, one of the virtues which is urged most vigorously is tolerance. It is true that Christians should be more tolerant. Christian love "bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things" (1 Corinthians 13:7). Tolerance would involve not trying to coerce others to accept or to live by a Christian’s views of what is true and right. It would mean being kind and friendly to everyone, regardless of their views. However, no one can be a true Christian and at the same time deny what is taught in the scriptures. Speaking of Jesus, the Bible says, "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among mortals by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). While we must not coerce or presume to act as judge, we are bound to lovingly and considerately present the Bible’s evidence concerning Jesus Christ!
