Think on These
Things

Question: Sir: In Luke 7:28, what does Jesus mean by the least in the kingdom being greater than John?
Answer: Is not the point of Jesus' statement to suggest something about the difference the kingdom would make? John was the most effective prophet of all time. Yet, John could only announce a message that the kingdom was NEAR. The impact of his work could not even compare with the impact of the work of the least effective herald who could announce that the kingdom is HERE. The kingdom of God refers to the activity of God in which his reign or sovereignty would become manifest in a way never before realized. When Jesus engaged in his ministry of giving sight to the blind, healing the sick, feeding the hungry, befriending the disenfranchised, and raising the dead, etc., God was manifesting his reign. The ultimate appearing of his reign was the death and resurrection of Jesus in which he condemned sin, conquered death, and crushed Satan. In the last day, this will be manifested in its totality, and saints will enter the everlasting kingdom. John never had a message like this!
