Think on These
Things
by Tom McLemore
Question: Mr. McLemore, My family recently experienced a sudden loss of a loved one. We are having a very difficult time. Any suggestions?
Answer: I can only imagine the intense feelings with which you might be struggling. In addition to the severe pain of loss, you may feel anger and guilt for feeling angry. You may be asking “Why?” and perhaps you feel guilt for asking “Why?” Let me encourage you to realize that all of these feelings are natural. With whatever feelings you may be struggling, remember this compelling word: “Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). God desires for you to express your feelings in his presence. It is not an indication of weak faith for us to honestly and freely express our feelings before God. While we must not charge God foolishly, it is well for us to pour out our hearts before him. Only then are we in the position for him to mend our broken hearts. By honestly acknowledging our feelings, we are expressing our faith in God and our deep need for him. Then we are able to receive the comfort of the Father of mercies.
