Think on These

Things

Question: Preacher, Didn’t God promise the land of Palestine to the Jews forever? If so, is it God’s will that they live there now?

Answer: In Genesis 17:7, 8 God promised Abraham, "I will establish my covenant between me and you, and your offspring after you throughout their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you. And I will give to you, and to your offspring after you, the land where you are now an alien, all the land of Canaan, for a perpetual holding; and I will be their God." According to Genesis 18:19, this covenant and the fulfillment of this promise are conditional: ". . . I have chosen [Abraham], that he may charge his children and his household after him to keep the way of the LORD by doing righteousness and justice; so that the LORD may bring about for Abraham what he has promised him." The fact that the new covenant reveals the ultimate fulfillment of the promises to Abraham in Christ and his church (the Israel of God, Galatians 6:16) implies that the promise of Genesis 17:7, 8 no longer applies to Israel after the flesh.
