Think on These
Things
by Tom McLemore
Question: Sir, I have heard my preacher say several
times that baptism has nothing whatsoever to do with salvation. What do you say?
Answer: Without desiring to appear impertinent, let me say
that it is not what I or any other preacher says that determines the issue, but
what the New Testament teaches. Your
question calls attention to a very significant consideration, viz., that there
is absolutely no passage of scripture which your preacher or anyone else can
quote that states what you have heard your preacher say! If what he said is true, it seems that there
would be a passage of Scripture which clearly and explicitly says as much. If what he said is true, you would think that
the apostles (whom
Jesus promised would be guided into all truth–John 16:13) would have expressed
such a truth. On the contrary, however,
there are many statements which your preacher must absolutely deny or explain
contrary to their clear and simple sense in order to make such a claim (1 Peter
3:21; John 3:5; Mark 16:16, et. al.).
I ask, What does God’s word say?
