Think on These
Things
by Tom McLemore
Question: Dear sir: How do we know that God exists?
Answer: There are at least four reasons why we know that God
exists. First, it is impossible to prove
that God does not exist. Second, the
existence of God is the only possible cause for the operation of the
universe. Third, the existence of God
is the only possible explanation for the order which characterizes the
universe. Fourth, God is the only
possible cause or source of the moral capacity of humans. All other suggested causes for the operation
or order of the universe and all other suggested sources of the moral capacity
of humans are simply inadequate to account for these realities. Those who deny the existence of God are left
with no alternative than to affirm that matter itself is responsible for its
own existence and present state. What a stretch of the imagination that requires! On the other hand, it just makes sense that
“...every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God”
(Hebrews 3:4). “...[H]is
eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been
understood and seen through the things he has made.” Romans 1:20).
