Think on These

Things

Question: “Sir, Is it right to put down other religious groups that don't agree with you?”

Answer:  It is never right to “put down” anyone.  Every person or group of persons is to be treated with courtesy and respect (Titus 3:2).  When controversy exists, and people feel very strongly about issues, the unacceptable tactic of personal attack is sometimes adopted.  However, the fact that perfect courtesy is to be shown to everybody does not mean that everyone's ideas and actions are true and correct.  It should be considered as an expression of courtesy when one kindly and humbly communicates scriptural truth that sheds light on another's errors.  Everyone has a right to one's view and ought to be allowed to hold it without being put down.  But when God has spoken plainly and when eternal destiny is at stake, the greatest disrespect would be not to communicate the truth of God (Galatians 4:16; James 5:19, 20).  A kind, respectful, yet forthright communication of scriptural truth can be distinguished from a personal attack (Matt. 22:29).
