NURTURE AND WORSHIP MINISTRIES
NURTURE MINISTRIES
Church Bulletin: Each month, the congregation publishes a four-page
bulletin with feature articles by Houston Park’s pulpit minister, important congregational news items, and reminders
of coming activities of the congregation during the month. This
publication is mailed to every household in the congregation and to others upon
request.

Education Ministry: Recognizing the Bible mandate to grow in
knowledge of God's Word, at Houston Park uncompromising support to our
congregation's Sunday morning and Wednesday evening Bible School program is
encouraged and sought. Under the oversight of the elders and directed by one
of the deacons, the education ministry coordinates all the teaching programs of
the church, including both Sunday morning and Wednesday evening Bible classes
for all age groups. It is responsible for teacher recruitment and training, the
Resource Center, and the church library. It also has responsibility
for the annual summer Vacation Bible School.

Fellowship
Ministry: At Houston Park, the saints realize that we are members of Christ and members one of another. We seek to grow closer to one
another as we draw near unto God in fellowship. The fellowship ministry
plans, or assists in planning, various fellowship activities for the entire
congregation as well as special segments of the congregation. The ministry
maintains a calendar of planned activities to insure an efficient use of the
facilities without conflicts with other events. There are two special
features of this ministry area:
·
Prime Timers Ministry: This ministry is coordinated
by a deacon and provides for fellowship and other activities for adults from
College age to age 55. It is believed that in providing fellowship and
service opportunities for the young and the aged, those in the "prime of
life" should also be considered and their special needs fulfilled.
·
Young at Heart Ministry: This ministry coordinates the activities of
our senior members. These activities include outreach efforts, special service
projects, field trips, fellowship activities, and the maintaining of a
"buddy" system among our senior saints. Back to Ministries Page
WORSHIP MINISTRY
At the heart of the life of Houston Park is the regular worship of God according to the pattern of the New
Testament. As the saints gather on the Lord's Day and at other times to
worship God and edify one another, we seek to offer our heavenly Father service
that is reverent, orderly, and up-lifting. Under the oversight of the
elders, the worship ministry assists in planning the worship services of the
church. It is responsible for selecting
men to lead prayer, serve communion, read Scripture, make announcements, and to
serve as ushers and greeters. Mark McLemore is the regular song
director. Each Sunday, Houston Park's weekly newsletter, Houston Park Update, is made available to
those who attend. This informative publication provides a program of
worship, information about those in need of prayer, and details concerning
congregational events. Also, Sermon
Notes, edited by the minister, provides an outline study guide for the
sermons along with some additional reading material. Each fourth Sunday night, we have Singing Emphasis—a period following a
devotional in which we learn about music, worship, and our songs. Each fifth Sunday of the month, the young men
of the congregation prepare lessons and lead all activities of the Sunday
evening worship service. Back to Ministries Page
